CEDAR SHAKE & WOOD SIDING
PICK UP BIO-FRIENDLY SIDING
Cedar shake and wood siding can last for many years and is very durable (depending on the type of wood of course). Cedar shake and wood siding are considered “green” options, as wood is biodegradable and requires less energy to produce than synthetic options, like vinyl siding. Wood or cedar shake siding should be specially treated to be fire-retardant to decrease fire hazards associated with wood siding.
Wood, like cedar shake, should also be sealed or coated upon installation to protect the wood against the elements, and that seal or coat should be annually inspected and maintained. It can be painted or treated with stain, oil, or left untreated if preferred, and can come in horizontal lap panels, shingles, or “shakes.”
INVEST IN STRONG, DURABLE SIDING
If you prefer wood, maintenance usually calls for treating your wood siding about every 4 years. Cracks and holes that develop in your wood can allow moisture and pests to get in. Before repairing wood siding, it is important to have a Hutter’s professional assess and diagnose the underlying problem. Most wood siding repairs are not too costly and easily done depending on the issue, such as re-nailing loose sheathing, replacing rotted pieces, patching holes.
